Vlogging Independence Day

Happy Independence Day, my home country Finland!

I have lived in my beautiful country for only four years of my 23-year long life, and yet I am so proud to call myself a Finn (which I usually do, when I’m not struggling because I can’t decide – more about where I come from here!). Today I have been filming everything about our Independence Day for you guys, so there is not much to say. We had a wonderfully festive day, celebrating with our guest Uriah from Arizona, USA, and I’ll share some snaps and the vlog with you guys now, so you get to mentally celebrate with me.

Vlogging it all turned out harder than I imagines. I have loved the thought of becoming a YouTuber for very long, but I have to admit, that there is so much work behind a vlog that I’m quite shocked. As I always get overexcited about new projects, I managed to film 56 minutes of footage yesterday, even though I had planned my vlog to only be about 7 minutes long. Also did I not realise how loud my dad’s voice is, or how dark our apartment. And I know that my editing is all but professional in this one.

Instead of vlogging, I think I’ll stick with “sit down and talk” -kind of videos. I enjoy filming them (I love talking so that makes sense, haha) and editing is way easier. Oh, and perfectionist me is happier with them too.

But I’m kicking my inner perfectionist now, grinding my teeth and uploading the vlog for you to see despite all its imperfections (light, music, sound). Sometimes you gotta jump over your own shadow. I hope you’ll still enjoy it!

I think it’s amazing that you are considering to put your face out there and say things to the world, which is much more different than just writing them! As for the vlogs, they’ll get better in the technical part, but what makes them interesting to watch is the content and you did a good job there. Who cares if you are not using a professional vlogging camera yet or if the sunlight in Finland at the moment is non-existing, those things can change in a heartbeat and you’ll find your style in editing too. You were super enthusiastic in showing your holiday traditions and that is what made your vlog good. :)
For example, I really like Jamie’s vlogging style for everyday vlogging: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqpdayJIwI_yts1uITarNOw and Mimi’s for travels: https://www.youtube.com/user/MimiIkonn .
I hope you find them useful :)
