If I’m not really in the spirit a few days before the holidays, watching Christmas movies surely changes that. Right now I love rewatching old classics whilst working on my blog! They just make me so happy! Lili barely ever wants to watch any with me, but there are some we too watch together every year.
This was my favourite film when I was little and I know every song by heart. It is a musical about a little girl in an orphanage in New York, who decides to find her parents around Christmas time. Make sure to watch the 1999 version – Kathy Bates as the cruel orphanage owner is incredible!
This is one of the films Lili and I always watch. Kevin is left behind alone during the holidays and must defend the house from Christmas burglars. This film is a classic and genuinely really good and always fun to watch with the whole family too! Home Alone II is just as good!
How the Grinch stole Christmas
This film has such a cute tradition for us. One Christmas Eve (maybe 2003?) my sister, brother and I didn’t know what to do around noon, so we watched the Grinch. And that is what we have done ever since! Another classic, a very well done story about the green Grinch, who hates Christmas and decides to “steal” it. Jim Carrey’s acting is so good and the costumes and setting are breathtaking too – I just love everything about this film!
This one is surely a lot less well known, but I love it so much too! It’s a Finnish film (it has been dubbed to English and German though!) and it is SO worth watching! It’s about a little boy, Nikolas, who loses his parents. From then on the families of his town always look after him for one year and pass him on at Christmas. Nikolas wants to thank them all and… well, you’ll have to watch the film to see what happens! PS. Not to be confused with A Christmas Story.
No idea why I only found this this year! Such a funny British comedy about a frustrated primary school teacher who has to produce his school’s nativity play about Jesus’ birth this year. Unfortunately his students aren’t very talented… This film must be one of my new favourites and I can’t wait for my brother to come home tomorrow, so I can watch it again with both my siblings!
Two depressed women (one in England, one in the US) decide to swap houses and lives over the holidays. I always wish I’d get to spend my Christmas in the cute little house on the English countryside too. This is just a film that will get you in a good mood immediately. And it has amazing actors (Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black) as well!
Other favourite Christmas films of mine: all the Harry Potter films (as we always watch them during Christmas!) and Narnia: the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Let me know in the comments what your favourite Christmas movies are – I have watched Annie twice this year already, so I always need new ideas!
Snap me, if you watch any of my favourites!
