Today I thought I’d share my favourite Christmas books and songs with you! For me Christmas-time always equals me-time, and that may not be forgottten, no matter how stressful it is! And I feel like there is nothing more festive or relaxing than spending the Christmas time reading my favourite books under the Christmas tree, or cuddled up in my bed with a cup of hot chocolate and some festive music in the background…
It’s a Finnish book by Marko Leino about a little boy, Nikolas, who loses his parents (but it has been translated to English and German too!). From then on the families of his town always look after him for one year and pass him on at Christmas. Nikolas wants to thank them all and… well, you’ll have to watch the film to see what happens! PS. Not to be confused with A Christmas Story.
This is super light and super fun. John Grisham wrote this book about a couple that decides to skip Christmas and go a cruise instead this year. Being American, they have to fight their neighbours who don’t accept them not putting up lights or a glowing Frosty.. but then everything comes very differently!
The Chronicles of Narnia
As mentioned in the favourite films too, reading these books by C.S. Lewis is so Christmassy for me. I first got my Chronicles (a big book, with pretty old illustrations) for Christmas, when I was 12, but I think that old fairytales are just perfect for this most magic time of the year!
Behind Magic Windows
Unfortunately this translation is by me, as the book has only been published in German (Hinter verzauberten Fenstern). But if you know German, get this! It’s by my absolute idol, the children’s book writer Cornelia Funke and tells the story of a girl, who is disappointed about only getting a picture advent calendar… until she realises that the windows are actual windows to a magic house and there is life inside her calendar!
Ever since November have I secretly listened to Christmas songs, but as soon as it’s the first day of December, my stereos will be blasting them, because it’s finally allowed!
I’ll make this one short, because I love ALL the Christmas songs. Here come my best Christmas music tips though: for daytime whilst working Michael Bublé works the best (you can find the full album on YouTube!). Whilst cooking, baking and when hanging out with my sister I love to listen to cheery American Christmas songs! This year Santa Baby, Baby It’s Cold Outside and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas are my favourites!
And so you can listen to your favourite Christmas songs on full volume too, or properly enjoy watching a Christmas film, I’m giving away a Bluetooth Speaker by Amazon Basics today! Just comment what your favourite Christmas book is, OR what your favourite books of 2016 were!
