Meetings. Emails. Uni. Appointments. Never let your social contacts lack. Go see your parents. Get out, at least for a coffee. Call a girlfriend. But the bus trips are so long. Yet, always give your best. Full throttle at all times. Live on the fast lane. And now, on top of all that, Christmas. Baking, cooking, writing Christmas cards, buying presents, visiting grandparents. Lovely things, and yet they all take up a lot of time.
Sometimes one has to ask if there is any time for sports left. One glance at the calendar loudly exclaims “No!”. But are you sure that’s how it goes?
I don’t think so. When I don’t do sports, I’m twice as stressed. On the one hand I’m not as happy with myself, and I’m definitely not well-balanced. That can be explained medically as well. Stress contracts muscles, sports will relax them. Stress releases stress hormones (adrenaline, norepinephrine, insulin and cortisol), sport in return releases endorphins. Enough reasons to do sports despite of (or because of!) stress? Oh yes!
But what I can definitely understand is if you don’t manage to go to the gym during stressful times. Driving, parking, changing, showering, all that takes a lot of time. I hate it to neglect my strength training, but sometimes it just happens. Especially when I’m en tour, at uni or otherwise. But thank god I have solutions for days like that! And I’m sure these solutions will be lifesavers during Christmas time as well!
My Stress-Sports Routine consists of two things: Running and Freeletics.
You guys know my love towards running. Surprisingly I have even started enjoying doing it during winter, even though my first runs in the dark and cold were more teeth-gritting-like. But now I completely love it, when I get to run in the crisp, cold sun, but I also enjoy the me-time with an audiobook, that I get when I go for a run in the dark. And the feeling after is just unbeatable!
Freeletics again is an app for bodyweight training. You can do it every time and everywhere, even inside in the warmth. 😉 Ever since their blogger event in October I’ve been completely in love! The workouts are short but super intense. You get to do a huge number of squats, sit-ups, burpees and many more (horrifying!) exercises and try to do those as fast as possible. Oh my, that does make you sweat! You can’t imagine how many times my sister Lili has sat on the bed, watching me crawl on the floor like a crazy worm, panting and trying to do 30 “mountain-climbers” as quickly as possible. 😀 You always try to beat your own personal best and that’s so hard! But I’ll definitely try to stick with Freeletics now. I remember how toned and skinny I was when I did functional training for 6-7 weeks a few years back. That’s what I want to look like again! And the Freeletics-Coach always asks how my training was and will alter the upcoming workouts according to that. I bet that’s even better than the magazine workout I did earlier!
I’m definitely not unfit, but Freeletics challenges me every time. And I love the fact that I don’t have to hit the gym for a proper, hard workout! That saves so much time, and it’s so good. And after, I will be so sore, too! 😮
