Meeting My Idols

I have always had one goal: to make other people’s lives better. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you will know that I have studied politics for a semester and applied for medical school too, even though I hate both science and politics. Somehow I always thought that the only way to make a positive change to the world is to research genes or rule countries.

Thank god I then realised that that’s not true.

Two people (or three, if we count my mum, who I talked to about this!) helped me realise that. Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima. I have admired them ever since I was eight years old. Miraphora and Eduardo, or better known as MinaLima, are the graphic designers of the Harry Potter films. They created all the little details that make the wizarding world so magical: the Daily Prophets, the Bertie Bott’s Beans, the Dark Mark, the letters from Hogwarts, the emblems of the school houses, the signs of the shops at Diagon Alley and so much more. Without them, the Harry Potter world wouldn’t be the same. They are responsible for the magic of that world, which again is such an important part of my life.

minalima2One could say that MinaLima are only graphic designers. And yet, they are magicians who have made my life better by creating something that matters so much to me and has been part of my life for 15 years already. By doing what they’re good at and what they love, they have definitely made my life a lot better. A lot more wonderful, more magical. And that opened my eyes. I don’t have to be a doctor or president of a country in order to change someone’s life to better. One can do incredible work by doing something they love (which for me definitely isn’t science or politics!).

And last week, I got to meet MinaLima in person at their House in Soho, and told them all these things. I got so emotional talking about it (and funnily, so did Lili! She stood next to me and cried non-stop while I talked to Eduardo and Miraphora!). But see for yourself! We visit the House of MinaLima in vlog day 4 and you can spot them in the video of day 5. Also make sure to watch our New Year’s vlog too!

You don´t have to be a doctor or a politican. You just have to live your dream and be happy with your life. You can only be good at something when you love doing these things. Magic is all around us and in my opinion: happiness is some kind of magic. Keep doing what you are doing, Lottie, keep living your dream, doing what you love and magically you will inspire people to do the same. Lots of love!
