I’ll be honest. I’m not doing very well at the moment. I’m stressed, unmotivated, even a bit unhappy. And finding a solution to this dilemma isn’t easy. My mum told me to relax a bit, but I didn’t know how. So when an invitation to a Adidas Wanderlust event came in, I basically jumped at the opportunity. The Wanderlust events combine yoga, meditation and music and that’s exactly what I needed. I know that if you let yourself calm down, you will then raise to even higher heights.
Do you guys do yoga? I’ve had an up-and-down story with it, sometimes hating, sometimes loving it. Now I’ve come to the conclusion, that my mindset is what matters and if I want yoga to feel good, this is the approach I have to take. So with an excited smile on my face I travelled to Berlin and the Adidas Runbase.
By the way, if you like sports and ever visit Berlin, check out the Runbase! Why doesn’t every city have one? There are uncountable opportunities to work out, an amazing healthy kitchen that supplied me with iced matcha lattes and nut energy bars. Furthermore, we got amazing glittery flash-tattoos to set us in the wanderlust-festival-spirit. 10/10 points to the Runbase – there were all the things I love in one place.
From the Runbase we walked to a park by a river. Underneath the trees were our yoga mats waiting for us, and a woman playing the guitar and singing soft tunes. Oh. Wow. As I said, I didn’t like yoga before and the slowness of it made me aggressive. Do you know what I mean? When you feel like you have to jump up and get things done instead of lying on the floor in a weird, twisted position? Now I felt so different. I wanted to make the best of this session and was ready to stretch, twist, let lose and meditate.
I think this is what makes the difference. If you let the stress take over, it will take over, I promise. If you constantly think about how terribly things are going, how much you have to do, that you don’t have time to switch off, you won’t switch off. But if you consciously allow yourself to take a break, to do yourself something good (mentally and physically), you will. I thoroughly enjoyed the yoga session, I loved the music and the bird song, the sunshine on my face and the smell of trees and nature. I even participated in the meditation – and I felt so calm and relaxed. I’m more a workout-kind of girl, and sweating it out in a HIT session is always good. But for relaxation this was even better. The picnic by the water afterwards was the best reward I could have wished for.
This is another reminder for myself and everyone else, that especially when life gets the most of you, you HAVE to allow yourself to switch off. You will feel so much better afterwards, it is worth it!
You can read a lot more about the Adidas Wanderlust Events here: they are real festivals of sports, yoga, meditation and live music. As the website says “It’s a celebration of the mindful movement, a chance to ground down so you can rise to even greater heights.” That’s exactly how I felt about the Wanderlust day with Adidas.
